Meet Riakos

 

Councilmember At Large Riakos "Rock" Adams is a native of Washington, DC.  He matriculated through DC Public Schools graduating from Benjamin Banneker Academic High School.  He was commissioned in the US Army as a Military Police Officer at Howard University; holds a Bachelors degree in Political Science from the University of the District of Columbia, a Masters in Business and Organizational Security from Webster University and is pursuing a Doctorate in Human Services at the University of Arizona Global Campus.

Riakos retired from the United States Army as a Major in January 2017 after serving over 22 years.  His military service has placed him around the world in combat, training, diplomatic, and armistice assignments.  He has received numerous awards and decorations, during his military service, including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Korean Defense Service Medal.

Riakos is currently the President and CEO of Killeen Volunteers, Inc; the Chair of the Points of Light Central US Leadership Roundtable; a member of the KISD Parent and Community Advisory Council; and the Deputy Assistant State Director of the Thomas Rout Grand Council of the Knights of Pythagoras Youth Fraternity.  He has served as a member of the the Bell County Child Welfare Board, the KISD Education Foundation Board of Directors, the KISD School Health Advisory Council; and has served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).

Appointed in July 2023, Councilmember Adams represents the City of Killeen on the Killeen Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization; Chairs the Killeen Crime Solutions Committee; serves on the Sister Cities Board and is the liaison for a number of citizen committees.  Councilmember Adams was recently appointed as a member of the National League of Cities Infrastructure Services Committee.

Riakos is a member of the Killeen/Harker Heights Moose Lodge, a life-member of the VFW (Post 12209), life member of the Disable American Veterans; a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.; a member of the National Sojourners and Heroes of 76; a member of the Military Order of World Wars; the Korea Defense Veterans Association; and the Korean War Veterans Association.  He is an active Prince Hall Mason and Shriner. 

Riakos attends Greater Vision Community Church

He wholeheartedly believes in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's quote, "Everyone Can Be Great, Because Everyone Can Serve."
