RIAKOS L. ADAMS ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR MAYOR OF KILLEEN
Grounded in service. Leading with purpose.
Killeen, Texas — Killeen Mayor Pro Tem Riakos L. Adams announced today that he has officially filed to run for Mayor of Killeen in the May 2, 2026 municipal election.
Adams, an at-large member of the Killeen City Council, has served the city since 2022, first by appointment and later by election. He was elected Mayor Pro Tem in 2025. His campaign emphasizes steady leadership, accountability, and a commitment to ensuring city government works for every resident.
“Leadership is an obligation, not a reward,” Adams said. “I am running because when you are prepared, capable, and trusted to serve at a higher level, you have a responsibility to step forward—especially when your community is growing and facing new challenges.”
A retired United States Army officer and disabled veteran, Adams enlisted in the Army in 1994 and was commissioned as an officer in 2000. He retired in 2017 as a Major after 22 years of service, with assignments spanning combat, diplomatic, interagency, training, and armistice missions worldwide. His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Korean Defense Service Medal.
Following his military career, Adams continued his commitment to public service through nonprofit and civic leadership. He currently serves as President of Killeen Volunteers, Inc. and Executive Director of the Central Texas Youth Volunteer Corps, overseeing volunteer and youth service initiatives that support neighborhoods and families across Central Texas.
Adams holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of the District of Columbia, a master’s degree in Business Management from Webster University, and has completed doctoral coursework in Human Services at the University of Arizona Global Campus.
On City Council, Adams has focused on public safety, infrastructure, responsible growth, and community engagement. He represents Killeen on the Killeen–Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization and serves in leadership roles at the regional, state, and national level, including the National League of Cities and the Texas Municipal League.
“This campaign is not about running against anyone,” Adams said. “It is about running for the people of Killeen—especially those who don’t always feel heard or included. Good people don’t stop caring; they stop believing leaders are listening. My goal is to restore that belief.”
The election for Mayor of Killeen will be held on May 2, 2026.
